Senbazuru: 1000 Paper Cranes

I did this a few months back, but never uploaded it, so I decided to stop being lazy and do so. I worked extremely hard on this, and wanted to have it in my gallery so I wouldn't forget it (not that I think I will).

This is a senbazuru, or 1000 origami paper cranes. Legend has it that whoever folds a thousand cranes will be granted one wish..so you can imagine that it was really hard for me to choose, hehe. Any one wish! But I knew right away that I wanted to do this for Ping, my boyfriend; I wanted to show him just how much free time I ha-- er, how much he means to me.

So, as a token of my love, I spent three straight weeks doing little else but folding cranes. I'd say I averaged at about 50 per day. Some days I fell behind, and had to play catch-up, which was torture when you still have your daily 50 to do. But to be honest, I had always wanted to fold a senbazuru, for a long time...and it seemed appropriate to make one for Ping, so I set the deadline to Valentine's Day 2009, and just went to town on folding. I had tried it once before but failed as I lost focus..but all I had to do was keep him in mind when the task seemed too much, and I rose above it. It's amazing, the things that happen when your heart drives you~

Lo and behold, I completed it on Valentine's Day, moments before Ping arrived at my house. Over the weeks, I strung each crane onto another on several threads, and strung each thread through holes in a thick cardboard circle, hot-gluing them in place and wrapping a rainbow feather boa around the circle for a finishing touch. Needless to say..he was speechless.

This has been one of my life goals to complete, and thus is probably one of the most important pieces in my gallery. I hope that his wish will always come true..because his happiness means so much to me. <3
